Blood & Iron Part 1

Written by: Eli Steele

Magic doesn't exist, until a mage falls in the streets of Ashmor. In his last moments, he gives Rowan Vos, a thief for hire, a sword that will alter his future, and threaten not only his own life, but the lives of everyone around him. Eldrick D'Eldar returns from the Kingdom of Meronia with dire news - three decades of fragile peace is unraveling. And Griffon Alexander, the son of a minor noble relegated to the borderland keep of Braewood, is about to face the culmination of all of these events.

“Blood and iron… Each craves the other. Drawn together since the hills were small, there is no separating them. Everything that we desire destroys us, Eleksandr. So, I’ll allow my axes what they crave. And if it ends them, then so be it, but I expect they will outlast me yet.” -Kren Redstorm

What was the inspiration behind Blood & Iron?

Blood and Iron is a classic western epic fantasy like the ones I grew up on. It’s trophy, with old evils and hero’s journeys and magic swords and big bads and the coming together of different personalities for the common good. It’s not ground breakinginly unique, but it’s the story I’ve always loved.

Who are some authors (or other people) who have inspired you to write?

In particular, all those old guys with four initials.

How do you know you have developed authentic characters?

That’s a good question. Perhaps it’s in the eye of the beholder to decide, but I believe I’m there when I agonize alongside them in their losses, d celebrate their victories.

What marketing strategies have you found most effective to spread the word about Blood & Iron?

Ha! Reddit has been supportive, but it’s has translated to sales. I’m still figuring that out.

What is coming next in your writing life?

I plan to finish up B&I’s arc (Part 7 is my WIP, then on to Part 8), and then try a traditional publishing route with a new arc.
